How did you end up living in New York?
I came on a tennis scholarship to NYC.
I had seen a show about NYC on TV while I was living in Germany and
I decided I wanted to come to NYC ....
At university you got a BA in Psychology
and then an MBA in marketing, What did you do after you graduated?
After graduating from college I started
my own business. I started on a independent film as a co-director with
Ronnie Cutrone called "shooting milk" which comes from the sixties when
people used to overdose on amphetamines and almost OD they used to shoot
milk in their veins to be revived.
How did your career in photography start
off?
I always loved photography. While doing
the movie I was inspired to take photographs. I like the idea of taking
pictures of people who are willing to be photographed. Putting a shoot
together is a very exciting thing, you can create anything you want
.....
What are the common elements of your
photography style?
I start to capture the essence of my subject
with their emotions which might be hidden in the surreal aspect of the
photograph itself. I look at my work as having many aspects : provocative,
humorous, emotional, beautiful.
How did you go from a photographer to
publishing the book "The Class of Click"?
I had an idea for a book and I knew a publisher
who was very interested in the idea. Hence, we did the book.
What have you been working on more recently
since the book was finished?
After finishing up the Click book I started
working for Interview Magazine, Ocean Drive Magazine and Maxim US. I
recently finished a campaign for the Art Directors Club which features
some of the leading advertising tycoons.
Who has inspired and influenced you
the most?
Henri Lartigue
What are your aims for the future?
to continue being an artist and to develop
my skills. To believe in what I think is right because ultimately being
an artist in any shape or form means trusting your own instincts.
